If you have noticed your hair thinning, shedding, or a scalp that doesn't feel good, you’ve probably see the videos of scalp treatments, scalp facials, and head spas on social meadia. It looks relaxing and some claim it can help thicken hair or prevent hair loss, but does it actually help? Or is it just a fun relaxing service with a different name?
The honest answer: a head spa is not the cure for hair loss, and anyone claiming it alone is a cure, is wrong. But a well educated head spa can support healthier hair growth by improving the heath of the scalp. If your scalp is not healthy, how wil you expect healthy hair? By removing buildup, calming irritation, increased blood circulation, and also lowering stress.
These factors contribute to how the hair grows from the scalp. Congested, inrritated, flaky, itchy scalp is not the best enviroment for healthy hair folicles which lead to healthy hair. There is limited clinical research on “head spas” "scalp treatments" , but there are meaningful research on scalp massage, scalp condition, along with hair-loss treatments that support parts of the approach.
What Studies Say About Scalp Massage and Hair Growth
This is where people usually get frustrated and messy. There are not a lot of clinical trials proving that “head spas regrow hair.” That evidence is not fully there yet. But there are reports that scalp massage supports hair growth and even regrowth of lost hair.
A 2016 study found that scalp massage affected stress-related measures, including stress hormone levels, blood pressure, and heart rate, which provides a physical effect. That matters because stress can worsen shedding in many people. Have you heard someone say they a losing hair from stress?
What a Solari Head Spa Can Actually Do?
A head spa treatment is not just a good shampoo and relaxing vibes. At Solari Head Spa, services begin with a scalp analysis.
Scalp Analysis, a dermascope scalp assessment (a hand held microscope that you can see the image on the screen) which shows your scalp magnified. We use what we se to determine your customized products.
Pre-treatment, we have different oils, lotions/gels to gently presoften any build up of products, dead skin, or excessive oils on your scalp.
Exfoliation, to exfoliate your scalp to remove the dry dead skin from your scalp.
Cleansing with a head spa specialty shampoo. Then later with the custom shampoo.
Therapeutic scalp massage with hydrotherapy (water sprayer and the "halo" which looks like an inverted sprinkler. Not only for relaxation but also increases blood circulation.
Spa Mist, this is important . We only use the Takara Belmont Spa Mist 2 for all head spas. It looks like a steamer but it's different than a nano mist/steamer or steamer. The Spa Mist is more gentle, has precise temperature control and more effective than a steamer. It heats the distilled water with ultrasonic technology. Steamers boil the water to get steam.
We have a variety of condition-specific products for dryness, irritation, buildup, sensitivity, or thinning. We also have many choices of products for hair textures; wavy, curly, straight flat, straight coarse, and even some for bald/balding heads.
We aim for scalp balance, reduce inflammation, microcirculation, and overall scalp environment to support healthier hair growth. Like I said before, healthier hair starts with a healthier scalp. The goal is not magic, it is to create better scalp conditions so hair has a better chance to thrive... and of coarse relaxation and reduce stress.
