What facial is right for my skin?
Why There's No One-Size-Fits-All Answer
If you've ever stared at a facial menu wondering which one is right for your skin type, you're not alone. Most people expect a simple answer, like "oily skin gets this one, dry skin gets that one." At Solari Head Spa in Oklahoma City, we do it differently. Every facial we offer is customized, so you can book any facial and we'll choose the products and treatments your skin actually needs that day.
Skin type is only one piece of the picture. Two people can both say they have "dry skin" and need completely different things. That's why we start every appointment with a thorough consultation.
What We Ask Before Your Facial Begins
Before your facial, you'll fill out an intake form that helps us understand your skin from every angle. We ask about:
Allergies and any medications you're taking
Your moisturizer preference: a dewy finish, a matte finish, or very hydrating
Your sensitivity to products, touch, and motion
Your current morning and evening skincare routine
How often you exfoliate, and whether you've recently waxed, shaved, or had a chemical peel
How much time you spend in the sun and whether you wear sunscreen daily
Your diet, including how often you eat fried or salty foods
Your main concerns, such as acne, dryness, aging, or sensitivity
Whether you like or want to try retinols and acids
Then we look closely at your skin to decide whether you need extractions, an enzyme peel, or serums. The goal is to treat the skin in front of us, not the skin we assume you have.
A Client Who Asked for the Wrong Treatment
One of my favorite examples is a client who came in asking for an aggressive peel. She wanted to start her skin over completely because she wasn't happy with how it looked.
When we examined her skin, we found it was very dry. She didn't need to strip anything away. She needed hydration and the right products. We gave her a light exfoliation, a serum, and a couple of maques, and sent her home with a written list of what to use morning and night.
She came back the next month for another facial after seeing the improvements with the right skin care routine. This time she was ready for relaxation, while still continuing to see improvement. An aggressive peel on already dry skin could have made things worse. A proper consultation made all the difference.
Which Facial Is Right for Your Skin Concern?
Because everything is customized, think of these as starting points rather than rigid categories.
Acne and Breakouts
For acne-prone skin, we use the Eminence Organic Skincare acne treatment during your facial. We also offer a three-step take-home system so you can keep helping your skin between appointments.
Dry or Dehydrated Skin
Dryness has many causes, and the fix depends on the cause. It can come from not drinking enough water, or from over-exfoliating and over-cleansing without replacing moisture with a good serum. Eminence offers several options for dehydrated skin, and we can add peptides and age-corrective moisturizers if your skin needs them.
Mature Skin
For mature skin, there are plenty of products to work with: peptides, moisturizers, night creams, and repair balms that help refine the skin and reduce the look of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.
Sensitive or Very Dry Skin
If your skin is sensitive or extremely dry, we love a comforting barrier repair balm. It's wonderful for very dry skin and for eczema relief.
The Skincare Mistakes I Wish I Could Talk Everyone Out Of
Self-Diagnosing Your Skin or Following Trends
Social media makes it tempting to try chemical peels, snail serums, and whatever is trending this week. But a trend can't tell you what your skin needs. A professional assessment can.
Over-Exfoliating
Many people think more exfoliation means better skin. In reality, over-exfoliating can destroy your skin's barrier, which often leaves skin drier, more irritated, and less healthy.
Expecting a Miracle From One Treatment
Real results take time. Depending on your goals, it can take a couple of treatments, or even six or seven, to see the change you're hoping for. Please don't wait until right before your wedding or picture day to book your first facial. Start early so your skin has time to respond.
Skipping Sunscreen on Cloudy Days
Clouds don't stop sun damage. You can still get damage and even a sunburn on an overcast day, so sunscreen should be a daily habit.
Why We Believe in Relaxation With Results
